Question:
Why do you ask if I want you to 'recognise my computer'?
Answer:
When you login to Online Banking, we check to see if you’re logging in from a computer you’ve asked us to ‘recognise’. If your computer is recognised, we can be more confident that it’s really you logging in. If we don’t recognise the computer you’re using, we will ask you to enter a One Time Access Code, which we’ll send by text message to your mobile phone. This helps stop fraudsters logging in to your account because they would have to know your Online Banking security details and either (a) use a computer you’ve asked us to recognise or (b) have access to your mobile phone.
We’ll ask you if you want us to recognise your computer when:
- you register for Online Banking
- you change your password
- you login from a computer we don’t recognise
You can ask us to recognise more than one computer (your home and work computers, for example). But you shouldn’t ask us to recognise a shared or public computer (a computer in an internet café or a public library, for example).
