Question:
Why do pets need insurance?
Answer:
The main reason why people insure their pets is to cover vet fees. Research indicates nearly 1 in 3 Cat and Dog owners will make a claim on their pet insurance (Source: Consumer Intelligence; Insurance Behaviour Tracker – 2010, based on survey of 1000 respondents).
Technological advancements have meant that vets are able to provide more comprehensive treatment, which is great news for pets and their owners. But this has caused bills to rise steadily and, if your pet was to fall ill or have an accident, it could end up costing you hundreds - potentially thousands if it’s a serious injury or illness - of pounds.
Pet Insurance can help you avoid most unexpected costs. Pet Insurance policies can also cover things like:
- Boarding kennel fees if you need to go into hospital for more emergency treatment
- Money towards advertising and a reward if your pet is lost or stolen
- Third party liability cover in case your dog causes death or injury to a third party or damage to their property
- Compensation if you have to cancel your holiday because your pet needs sudden, unexpected, life-saving treatment
- Specific cover related to foreign travel, such as quarrantine costs or financial help to cover the loss of a pet's passport
